Muff Records Hat-Trick as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Stockton

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Mar. 8, 2017)- Junior Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) posted a hat-trick as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Stockton University, 11-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

Colin Shea finished with four goals for the Ospreys who improve to 4-1 overall. Sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) recorded a career-high 22 saves for the Cyclones who fall to 3-1 overall.

Centenary trailed 2-0 in the opening minutes of the contest, before three unanswered goals from Muff, senior Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) and junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) propelled the Cyclones back in front at 3-2 with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter.  Stockton responded with three unanswered goals from Shea in the final 9:40 as the Ospreys held a 5-3 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Stockton continued their run with four more goals in the third quarter which expanded their lead to 9-3 with 6:18 remaining in the third. Muff ended the Ospreys run with back-to-back assisted goals from Gottshall and freshman Robert Amanto (Avon Grove, Pa / Avon Grove). Centenary trailed 9-5 entering the final quarter. Despite a late goal from Tremont, Centenary would get no closer as Stockton netted two more in the fourth to push the lead back to 11-6.

Junior Kyle Purcell (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) totaled three caused turnovers and three grounballs, while Muff added four groundballs and one caused turnover. Freshman Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) and Amanto both recorded two groundballs and one caused turnover, while Gottshall tallied six groundballs.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 15th, hosting the Aggies of Delaware Valley University at 3:00 p.m.
