HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Feb. 8, 2017)- After overcoming a nine point first half deficit, the Centenary University men's basketball team snapped a three game losing streak with a 77-62 victory over Marywood University on Wednesday evening.
Senior
Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. James Curley finished with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Pacers who fall to 4-18 overall and 4-11 in the CSAC.
After a back and forth opening 12 minutes, Marywood used a 10-1 run over a 1:56 span to take their largest lead of the game at 29-20 with 6:15 remaining. The Cyclones got a boost off the bench from senior
Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) and junior
Hamp Smith (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen). The duo combined for 17 of the Cyclones 37 first half points, including three triples from K. Smith during a 17-8 run over the final 4:31 of the half. Centenary and Marywood were deadlocked at 37-37 entering halftime.
In the second half, Marywood regained the lead at 50-46 with 13:14 remaining. The Cyclones responded by closing the contest with a 23-7 run over the final 8:23 to allow Centenary to pull away for the victory. Jones and junior
Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) combined for 26 of the Cyclones 40 second half points.
Spencer finished with 15 points and four rebounds, while sophomore
Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists. Senior
Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with eight rebounds, six assists and four points, while sophomore
Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) totaled six points and four rebounds.
