Wrestling Closes Season with Two Victories at Wesleyan Quad Meet


MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Feb. 12, 2017) – The No. 19 Centenary University wrestling team came away with two victories at a quad meet hosted by  Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon.  The Cyclones went 2-1 with victories over Norwich University (39-15) and WPI (25-17). Centenary ended the afternoon with a 24-15 loss to Wesleyan.  The Cyclones finished the season at 11-3, while Norwich posted a 7-9 record, WPI posted a 12-12 record and Wesleyan posted a 9-7 record.

Match Results

Centenary 39, Norwich 15
In the first match of the afternoon, the Cyclones defeated Norwich University, 39-15. Sophomore Max Nauta (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional), sophomore Etiini Udott (Piscataway, N.J. / Piscataway), and junior Anthony Colabella (Flanders, N.J. / Mount Olive) all posted pinfalls. Nauta defeated Sean Randles in a time of 1:20, Udott pinned David Rogers in a time of 3:33 and Colabella pinned Stephen Birganti in a time of 2:32.

Centenary 25, WPI 17
In the second match of the afternoon, the Cyclones defeated WPI, 25-17. Nauta and sophomore Alec Donovan (Brick, N.J. / Brick Memorial) both recorded falls, while sophomore Christopher Muce (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township), freshman Tommy Miller (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury), and freshman Dylan Luciano (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) all recorded decisions. Nauta pinned Andrew Ellis in a time of 2:52 and Donovan pinned Ronan Ball in a time of 2:02.

Wesleyan 24, Centenary 15
In the final match of the afternoon, the Cyclones lost to Wesleyan University, 24-15. Freshman Bobby Demeter (Manville, N.J. / Manville) pinned Amir Daouk in a time of 3:56, while Luciano, Muce, and Udott all posted decisions in the loss.

Head Coach John Garriques and the No. 19 Cyclones will return to the mat in the NCAA East Regional on Saturday, Feb. 25th and Sunday, Feb. 26th.
