Four Starters Score in Double Figures as Men’s Basketball Falls to Keystone

LA PLUME, Pa. (Feb. 1, 2017) – Four starters scored in double figures as the Centenary University men's basketball team fell to Keystone College, 96-76 on Wednesday evening.

Perry Belcher nearly recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for the Giants who improve to 6-14 overall and 3-10 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) led all scorers with 20 points for the Cyclones who fall to 10-10 overall and 6-7 in the CSAC.

The opening stanza was a dogfight with six ties and four lead changes. The Cyclones battled back from a 12-4 deficit with an 11-3 run to even the contest at 15-15 on a triple by senior Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic). The Giants responded with a 13-5 run over the final 3:16 of the first half to propel Keystone to a 42-34 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Centenary had a tough time overcoming Keystone's hot shooting as the Giants posted north of 50.0% shooting from the floor. Despite the hot shooting, the Cyclones actually would cut the halftime lead to four at 50-46 on back-to-back triples by Spencer and senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) with 15:47 remaining.

The comeback was short-lived as Keystone used a 14-4 run over the next 3:43 to regain the lead at 64-50, before then stretching their advantage to as large as 20 points late in the contest.

Duymich finished with 14 points, while junior Hamp Smith (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen) added 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) tallied 10 points and six boards. Deion Monroe totaled 16 points and six assists, while ShaShawn Drayton added 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Giants.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4, hosting the No. 17 Knights of Neumann University at 4:00 p.m.
