Spencer Drops 26 as Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 17 Neumann


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Feb. 4, 2017)- Junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) dropped in 26 points and six rebounds as the Centenary University men's basketball team fell to the No. 17 Neumann University, 96-73 on Saturday afternoon.

DeAndre Williams finished with 25 points for the Knights who improve to 20-1 and 14-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) totaled 13 points and six rebounds for the Cyclones who fall to 10-11 overall and 6-8 in the CSAC.

Unlike the first meeting in Aston, the Cyclones hung with the nationally ranked Knights for the opening five minutes. Senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) nailed a triple to even the game at 7-7 with 18:08 remaining in the opening stanza. Neumann responded with a 23-10 run over the next 9:15 to take a 51-35 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Knights didn't miss a beat by building upon their first half lead with another 20-11 run that stretched their lead to as large as 27 at 73-46.

Sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jones added seven points and eight rebounds. Senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with five points, six assists and six rebounds. Darian Barnes finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Carl Wallace added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Neumann who pushes their winning streak to eight games.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8th, hosting the Pacers of Marywood University at 8:00 p.m.
