LaPolice Lifts Women’s Soccer to Victory over Drew in Season Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 2, 2016)- Sophomore Kara LaPolice (Hopewell, N.J. / Hunterdon Central)  netted the game-winner, as the Centenary University women's soccer team defeated Drew University, 1-0, on the opening day of the 2016 Cyclone Kickoff Classic.

Junior Kaitlin Marold (Edison, N.J. / Edison) made four saves for the Cyclones who improve to 1-0 overall. Andee Higgins made seven saves for the Rangers who fall to 0-1 overall.

Centenary scored in the 13th minute, as LaPolice scored off a pass back from fellow classmate Kristin Kraszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor). Marold and Higgins kept the game close, as both netminders stopped numerous shots which would have made it a higher scoring affair.

Centenary edged Drew in both shots (12-9) and shots on goal (8-4). LaPolice along with freshman Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) each recorded three shots apiece for Centenary. Erin Connors posted a team-high three shots for Drew.

Besides Christopher, freshman Cassidy Haller (Stroudsburg, Pa / Pocono Mountain East) and Victoria Speakman (Sicklerville, N.J. / Timber Creek) both made their collegiate debuts. Haller got the start alongside Christopher and recorded a shot.

Head Coach Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 3, against the Ospreys of Stockton University at 1:00 p.m.
