Schmitt Nets Six as Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Gwynedd-Mercy


GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2016) - Senior Carlie Schmitt (Stewartstown, Pa. / Kennard-Dale) totaled six points on six goals as the Centenary College women's lacrosse team defeated Gwynedd-Mercy, 18-8.

Senior Devin Sutko (Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) totaled 10 points on eight assists and two goals for the Cyclones who improve to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Carrie Kilgore recorded a hat-trick for the Griffins who fall to 1-8 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC.

Sutko assisted on four of the 10 first half goals, including facilitating four unanswered to close the opening stanza with a 10-4 lead.

In the second half, Schmitt and junior Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) both netted hat-tricks as the Cyclones maintain a comfortable lead for the rest of the contest. Despite opening the second half with three unanswered goals, to cut their deficit to 11-7, the Griffins only managed to score one goal in the final 27:46.

Senior Erica Tripp (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon, freshman Diana Guillen (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton), and junior Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) each recorded a goal for the Cyclones who have won their last four out of five, including the last three in CSAC play. Oritz added six groundballs, while senior Kristen Rabenstein (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) finished with four groundballs, two goals, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.

Senior Kelly Conklin (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) finished with three groundballs and two caused turnovers, while freshman Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made 10 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.

Head Coach Julie Moir and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 9, hosting the Cavaliers of Cabrini College at 3:00 p.m.
