Nick Daniele (Colts Neck, N.J. / Red Bank Catholic) set a new school record for the longest hitting streak at 22 games, while freshman
Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa. / Emmaus) tossed a complete game with 15 strikeouts as the Centenary College baseball team took the season series with a doubleheader sweep of Marywood on Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones improve to 17-10 overall and 7-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while the Pacers fall to 9-17 overall and 1-11 in the CSAC.
Game 1: Centenary 3, Marywood 0
Hinkle and Marywood's Justin Haddix went back and forth all afternoon in a classic pitcher's duel. Hinkle finished with 15 strikeouts in his first complete game victory, while Haddix nearly tossed a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
The game remained scoreless into the 10
th, when Daniele started the inning with a single that ended Haddix's no-hitter. After freshman
Casey Brown (Easton, Pa. / Easton Area) reached on a walk, fellow classmate
Ryan Jasiecki (Ledgewood, N.J. / Roxbury) drove in the first run of the afternoon with an RBI single that scored Daniele.
After Haddix's lost his no hitter, he proceeded to walk senior
Chris Ohlweiler (Verona, N.J. / Verona) and sophomore
Michael Caprari (Candor, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy), when gave Centenary a 2-0 lead. Centenary was able to get one more run across the plate in the 10
th as senior
Nick Koffel (Perkiomenville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) reached after getting hit by a pitch, which scored Jasiecki.
Hinkle would strikeout the side in the bottom of the 10
th to preserve the victory.
Game 2: Centenary 4, Marywood 3
Senior
Jimmy Kraivec (Sayreville, N.J. / Sayreville War Memorial) improved to 4-0 with five strikeouts, while only two hits and one earned as the Cyclones survived a late rally from Marywood. Centenary jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three RBI's from junior
Sal Smith (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) in the second and the fourth.Â
Marywood rallied with three runs in the fourth and fifth. Junior
Ryan St. John (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) made an appearance in the sixth in a save situation. The Pacers had a chance to win the game in the seventh, with a running on second and Vince Rebar at the plate.
Rebar hit a shot to left center, Caprari was able to run the ball down and take away the two run homer at the warning track to preserve the victory.

Scott Kushner and the Cyclones will return to action on Friday, Apr. 29, hosting the Giants of Keystone College at 3:00 p.m.
