Men’s Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Contest to Mount Saint Mary’s

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Mar. 19, 2016)- Four different players scored at least two goals apiece as the Centenary College men's lacrosse team fell short in a late rally of the 10-9 loss to Mount Saint Mary's College.

Dylan De Meo and Kenneth Atkins both scored two goals apiece for the Knights who improve to 7-0 overall.  Sophomore Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) totaled four assists for the Cyclones who fall to 3-3 overall.

Centenary dominated the first quarter with Muff assisting on two of the Cyclones three goals. The Knights responded in the second quarter with five unanswered, including a goal by De Meo at the buzzer, for a 5-3 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Mount Saint Mary's tried to pull away on numerous occasions but the Cyclones answered the bell every time. Senior Joey DeBiasse (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) and sophomore Denzel Thompson (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) netted goals in the third quarter, which allowed Centenary to stay within striking distance at 7-5 entering the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Centenary rallied with senior Trevor Krupinski (Lincoln Park, N.J. / Boonton) scoring the game tying goal at 8-8 with 5:29 remaining. The Knights answered with back-to-back goals from Atkins with less than three minutes to play. Thompson kept the door open by scoring with 12 seconds remaining. On the ensuing faceoff, the Cyclones turned the ball over and the Knights ran out the clock.

Christopher Doerr made 16 saves in 60 minutes of work, while senior Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pascack Valley) recorded 14 saves. Switzer along with junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) scooped up eight groundballs apiece, while sophomores Kyle Purcell (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) and Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) finished with two caused turnovers each.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in Madison, N.J. on Tuesday, Mar. 22, against the Rangers of Drew University at 7:00 p.m.
