Spencer Pours in Season-High 28 as Men’s Basketball Loses Second Straight to Hamilton



HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Dec 4, 2016)- Junior Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) scored a season-high 28 points as the Centenary University men's basketball team lost its second straight game to Hamilton College, 88-72 on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Grassey finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Continentals who improve to 5-2 overall. Senior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) finished with 14 points and three rebounds for the Cyclones who fall to 4-4 overall.  

Hamilton held a 48-31 advantage at halftime, after torching the nets for 64.0% shooting from the floor and making six triples in the opening stanza. Despite Centenary only shooting 40.6%, Jones scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half.

In the second half, Spencer scored 21 points as the Cyclones were able to shave the Continentals lead down to seven at 74-67 on a three point play by Spencer with 5:58 remaining. Hamilton responded by closing the game with a 14-6 run over the final 5:01.

Senior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with seven points and two rebounds, while fellow classmate Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) made two triples and finished with six points. Sophomore Jake Logue (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) totaled five points and five rebounds, while juniors Hamp Smith (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen) and Jason Sutton (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck) along with sophomore Tom Weiler (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) each added four points apiece. Andrew Groll scored 18 points, while Jack Dwyer dished out nine assists for Hamilton.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 7, hosting the Ravens of Rosemont College at 7:00 p.m.
