HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Dec. 30, 2016)- Propelled by a late 24-12 fourth quarter run, the Centenary University women's basketball team rallied to defeat PSU-Harrisburg, 68-56 on Friday afternoon.
Senior
Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 8-2 overall. Raven Ransom finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Nittany Lions who fall to 1-9 overall.
The Cyclones struggled shooting the ball in the opening quarter, as Harrisburg jumped out to a 16-5 lead early in the second quarter on a three pointer by Aireo Payne. Centenary recovered by using a 19-9 run over the final 7:47 of the first half to trail 25-24 at halftime.
In the second half, junior
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) and Yaros combined for 21 of the Cyclones 44 points.
Edwards scored eight of her 11 second half points in the third quarter, including knocking down two triples that gave Centenary a 42-38 lead entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Yaros scored five points during a 10-3 run that propelled the Cyclones to a 52-44 advantage with 4:00 remaining in the contest.
Senior
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 18 rebounds and 11 points, while sophomore
Amber Resienwitz (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) totaled 12 points, seven assists and four rebounds. George is now just 25 boards away from the programs all-time leader. Senior
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) totaled nine points and four rebounds, while junior
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) added five points and six rebounds. Alexis Nolan totaled 12 points, while Ana Edmondson added 10 points for Harrisburg.
