Women’s Basketball Remains Unbeaten in CSAC with Victory over Cairn


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Jan. 3, 2017) – Senior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Centenary University women's basketball team remained unbeaten in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with a 62-36 victory over Cairn University on Tuesday evening.
 
Junior Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) totaled 13 points and five rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the CSAC. Kendra Stum finished with 12 points and six rebounds for the Highlanders who fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC.
 
George did most of her damage in the first half, scoring 10 points and collecting seven rebounds in an opening stanza that saw Centenary post a 43.2% field goal. The Cyclones opened the game with a 16-8 run, that included eight points from George. The Highlanders struggled to shoot the ball in the first half, posting a 24.1% field goal percentage and trailed 32-14 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, Centenary continued to overwhelm Cairn with their ball movement and hot shooting. Presant connected on three triples and totaled 11 of her 13 points, as the Cyclones eventually stretch their lead to as large as 35 points late in the fourth quarter.
 
After tonight's contest, George is now 14 rebounds away from the all-time leader. Senior Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) finished with eight points, eight rebounds and four assists, while fellow classmate Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) finished with six points and seven rebounds. Senior Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) and junior Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) both finished with six points apiece. Aigner Bookard added 10 points for the Highlanders.
 
Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday January 5th, hosting the Falcons of Cedar Crest College at 7:00 pm.
