Men’s Soccer Pushes Streak to Eight with Defeat of Immaculata

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2016) – Three different Cyclones scored as the Centenary University men's soccer team pushed their winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury), sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) and senior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) all scored for the Cyclones who improve to 10-4-1 overall and remain undefeated in the CSAC at 6-0-1. Alex Noel scored and assisted on a goal for the Mighty Macs who fall to 10-5-1 overall and 5-2 in the CSAC.

Centenary took an early 1-0 lead in the 9th minute, as Castro capitalized on a missed penalty kick opportunity by junior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover).  White would facilitate the Cyclones second goal in the 33rd minute with a cross back to Cameron, who used the heel on his right foot to flip the ball passed the keeper. Centenary held a 2-0 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, the Cyclones increased their lead to 3-0 with an insurance goal from Marin in the 51st minute. Immaculata finally answered in the 58th minute as Noel crossed the ball into Nick Boule for score and cut the lead to 3-1.

Immaculata was able to get one more into the back of the net, when they received a penalty kick opportunity from a hand ball in the box. Noel calmly converted on the PK and the Cyclones maintained a 3-2 lead in the 79th minute.

Centenary edged Immaculata on shots (21-14) and shots on goal (12-10), while the Mighty Macs edged the Cyclones on corner kicks (12-7) and saves (9-8). White and Castro led with a game-high five shots, while both Marin and freshman Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) both added three shots apiece. Noel led with a team-high four shots, while both Kyle Jumalon and Nick Boule added three shots apiece.

In net, sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made eight saves in 90 minutes of work for the Cyclones, while Joe Lubonski finished with eight saves in 90 minutes of work for the Mighty Macs.
