HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 19, 2016) - Two first half goals propelled the Centenary University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Cedar Crest College on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) scored the game-winner for the Cyclones who improve to 8-6 overall and 7-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Kari Vanderslice took two shots for the Falcons who fall to 5-4-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the CSAC.
The Cyclones overwhelmed the Falcons from the opening whistle as they only allowed two shots, including one on goal in the first half. Centenary opened the scoring in the afternoon as Benoit played a deflected ball off an initial shot by freshman
Chloe Christopher (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) in the 9
th minute.
The Cyclones increased the lead to 2-0 in the 40
th minute when senior
Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) scored off a pass back from junior
Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan).
In the second half, Cara Montanye kept the Cyclones from extending the lead as she made seven of her 10 saves in the latter 45.
Centenary edged Cedar Crest on shots (24-3), shots on goal (12-1) and corner kicks (6-3). A. Benoit took a game-high seven shots, while J. Benoit recorded six shots for the Cyclones. Allison Rittle also tallied a shot in the loss.
