Men’s Basketball Falls to Immaculata in Extra Session

IMMACULATA, Pa. (Jan. 30, 2016) - On Saturday afternoon, the Centenary College men's basketball team suffered their second straight loss with a 85-78 overtime defeat to the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University.

Each team went on several runs throughout the first half with the Cyclones building a 10-point advantage with 6:37 remaining in the opening stanza. However, Immaculata used a 7-2 run that cut Centenary's lead down to one at 36-35, entering halftime.

There were only four lead changes in the second half, as both Centenary and Immaculata held the lead for several minutes at a time. The drama came in the final seconds as Immaculata's Roy Ferrell hit a three-ball to put his team up 72-69 with 16 seconds remaining. Centenary forced overtime on the very next trip down the floor as senior Deshawn Batts (Piscataway, N.J. / Pacific) hit a three-pointer with only six seconds remaining to tie the game at 72.

Unfortunately, the game-saving score didn't give the Cyclones any momentum heading into overtime. In the extra session, both teams traded baskets and free throws, before Immaculata went on a quick run, that put the Cyclones down five with 1:43 remaining. A couple of missed shots later, and the Cyclones found themselves on the wrong side of an 85-78 final score.

Sophomore Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) led the Cyclones with 21 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Myles McLeod (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck) and junior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) also broke double-digits with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will look to get a win when they travel to Cairn University on Monday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m.
