Spells Totaled 14 Digs as Volleyball Drops CSAC Opener to Keystone

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2015)- Junior Na'imah Spells (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) totaled 14 digs as the Centenary College volleyball team dropped its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener to the Giants of Keystone College, 3-0 this evening.

Hannah Zuchowski recorded 11 kills for the Giants who improve to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC. Senior Vanessa McKellar (Annadale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) finished with eight kills for the Cyclones who fall to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

Keystone controlled the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-12, before the Cyclones took an early lead in the third set. Junior Jamie Bierbaum

and freshman Giani Montalvo (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth) combined to serve for five points, which allowed Centenary to take its largest lead of the match at 9-4. The Giants would use their deep bench and height on the front line to rally and complete the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the third set.

Bierbaum added four service aces, four digs and three kills while freshman Ashley Bierbaum (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) finished with six assists and five digs. Sidney Binkley finished with a match-high 19 assists, while freshman Zoey Woody (North Brunswick, N.J. / North Brunswick) finished with six assists.

Head Coach Kelsey Walter and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 17th, as they will travel to Old Westbury, N.Y. to take on the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury at 6:00 p.m.
