Scranton, PA – The Centenary Baseball team were edged by the Marywood Pacers in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game this afternoon, 3-2. With the loss, the Cyclones fall to 12-7 overall and an even 4-4 in league play, while the Pacers improve to 11-6 on the season and 4-3 in the CSAC.
After a scoreless three innings, the Pacers struck first after Matt Staback homered to left field for the 1-0 lead. The Cyclones would respond in the very next inning scoring two runs off of
Chris Kiesel's homer to left field which scored
Joe Forcellini who got on by a single.
The Pacers would not stay quiet for long after a quick three and out in the bottom of the fifth, Marywood plated two runs off of two hits in the sixth to regain the advantage, 3-2.
Over the next two innings, Centenary registered two hits and stranded four teammates as they failed to score the game tying run as the Pacers hung on for the victory.
Cyclone pitcher,
Justin Young suffered the loss after 5.1 innings allowing three runs off of seven hits. Teammate
Joe Talnagi threw 2.2 innings in relief of Young allowing just one hit while striking out six Pacers.
For the Pacers, James Goetz earned the win after 7.0 innings pitched allowing two runs and four hits, while striking out four batters.
The Cyclones return to the field as they visit Keystone College for a single April 10
th, @ 3:00pm.
