Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary women's lacrosse team were defeated by Neumann University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game by a final score of 24-8. The loss drops Centenary to an overall record of 2-8 and 1-7 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 10-4 on the season and 8-1 in the league.
The Knights took control of the game early creating a 10-0 advantage in the first 10 minutes before Centenary's
Abby Voelkner put the Cyclones on the board with their first score.
The knights were relentless as they continued to score throughout the rest of the half for the 15-3 lead at the half. Voelkner would be the only scorer for the Cyclones in the first half netting three.
After the break, Centenary struck first as three different Cyclones scored in a span of four minutes (15-6). Neumann quickly responded with seven unanswered goals down the stretch for a commanding 22-6 advantage.
Neumann would tack on two more goals in the final five minutes for the 24-8 victory.
Voelkner tallied a team-high four goals and two assists, while
Kristen Rabenstein added two.
Carlie Schmitt and
Devin Sutko also added a goal each.
Neumann's Jordan Hopkins and Amanda Fedak led all scorers with five goals apiece.
Centenary's
Hannah Fisher made nine stops in 60 minutes of play, while Knight goalies, Gabby Curry and Becca Wallace split their time making three stops each.
Prior to the start of the game, Centenary honored their lone senior, Cheyenne Reynolds for her dedication and hard work to the women's lacrosse program.
Centenary will remain home as they play host to Cedar Crest College April 20
th @ 4pm.
