Bridgewater, NJ – The Centenary baseball team were swept by Immaculata University in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader. With the losses, Centenary now stands at 13-13 overall and 5-9 in the league, while Immaculata improves to 16-8 on the season and 9-2 in CSAC play.
Immaculata 5, Centenary 3The Mighty Macs opened the scoring in the first inning for a 1-0 lead but the Cyclones evened the game (1-1) in the fourth inning.
With the score still tied 1-1, the Cyclones would push two runs across the plate in the sixth for a 3-1 advantage.
Kevin Sensale stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and delivered an RBI-double to center scoring teammate,
Kevin Litus.
Nick Ortiz also singled driving in pinch runner
Ryan Mariotti for the two-run cushion.
In the top of the seventh, Immaculata battled back recording four runs off four hits to go back on top 5-3 courtesy of a two-RBI single by Mike Lascomb and a two-RBI triple from Dom Ficca.
The Cyclones were unable to score in their last at bats as Immaculata hung on for the win.
Centenary's
Mitchell Renz took the loss giving up four runs off seven hits, while Mighty Macs, Adam Wheatley recorded the win and Kenny Anderson closed the game for the save.
Immaculata 17, Centenary 6In game two, the Cyclones found themselves down 7-0 at the end of three. The Mighty Macs pushed two runs across in the first and five in the third after belting out five hits.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cyclones clawed their way back into the game plating six runs. Three walks loaded the bases for the Cyclones and a balk by Mighty Mac pitcher, Mike Campisano allowed
Ryan Caparoni to score. Centenary's
Chris Kiesel then cleared the bases with a double to left field scoring
Kevin Litus and
Kevin Sensale (7-3). The Cyclone bats continued with their momentum with an RBI single by
Ryan Kanner and a double from
Nick Ortiz as both would come around to score off
John Tierney's single to get within one (7-6).
Immaculata answered back in the sixth with three runs in the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh to walk away with a 17-6 victory.
Jimmy Kraivec suffered the loss giving up seven runs and striking out three, while Mike Campisano took home the win allowing just one hit and striking out four batters.
Caparoni and Tierney finished the day with three hits and two RBI's, while
Nick Ortiz and
Dave Raifsnider added a pair of hits each.
Centenary will host a non-conference game against New Jersey City University April 21
st @ 4pm in Flemington, NJ.
