Centenary Defeats Baptist Bible in CSAC Play, 70-61

Hackettstown, NJ - It was senior night at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center where Andy Charles, Josh Case, and Djovan Beausejour led the Cyclones (12-11) (9-7 CSAC) to an important 70-61 conference win over Baptist Bible (2-21) (1-15).

The Cyclones came out to a very slow start only scoring 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game and staring at a 20-10 deficit.  At 8:17, Baptist Bible's Abe Valentine gave the Defenders their largest lead of the game (25-12) after draining three of his game-high 27 points.

However, with 6:22 remaining, the Cyclones stormed back to go on a 20-7 run, which was capped off by a buzzer beating three-ball from Anthony Bailey to give Centenary a 35-32 lead going into the break.

The Cyclones found their groove in the second half as they slowly pulled away from Baptist Bible posting a 10-0 run at the 15:02 mark for the 51-40 lead.  The teams continued to trade baskets for a few minutes before Centenary went on another run (11-2), which widened the gap to as much as 16 points with 4:18 to play.  The
Defenders never gave up as they cut the lead to single digits with 1:02 left in regulation (68-59) but would not get any closer.

Seniors Andy Charles and Josh Case both tallied 12 points, while Case grabbed four rebounds, and Charles came one rebound away from a double-double. Rashaan Spencer also had a solid game going 5-for-8 from the field, including 2-4 from the arc for 12 points as well.  Zachary Duymich added nine points, four assists and three steals, while Kyle Smith finished the day with eight points.

Baptist Bible's Abe Valentine put up 16 of his game-leading 27 points in the first half, while Ryan Landry chipped in with 15 points.

Centenary dominated the inside as the Cyclones piled up 28 points compared to the Defender's eight points.  They also held Baptist Bible to 38% from the field, while the Cyclones shot 44% from the floor.

With only two games before playoffs, Centenary will look for a big win on the road when they travel to Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. on Monday night @ 7:00 PM.
