Men’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Contest to John Jay

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Dec. 14, 2015)- Sophomore Myles McLeod (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck) recorded his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Centenary College men's basketball team closed 2015 with a 73-65 loss to John Jay College.

Essien Epps finished with 22 points, nine rebounds and five steals for the Bloodhounds who improve to 2-8 overall. Junior Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with a season-high 11 assists, while adding eight points for the Cyclones who fall to 6-4 overall.

The Bloodhounds shot a high percentage from behind the arc, as Epps and Jesse Higgins knocked down triples to take an eight point lead at 32-24 with 4:02 remaining. Senior Deshawn Batts (Piscataway, N.J. / Pacific) rallied the Cyclones as he scored the final eight points to cut the deficit to 35-31 at the break.

In the second half, both teams traded the lead to open the half. Junior Kyle Smith (Warwick, N.Y. / Burke Catholic) knocked down a triple to give Centenary its largest lead of the game at 50-47 with 10:57 remaining. The Cyclones attempted to pull away from John Jay, but the Bloodhounds stayed in the game and eventually took the lead with their hot shooting from long distance.

After a double technical was assessed to both John Jay and Centenary, the Bloodhounds preceded to put together a 7-0 run that would give them the lead for good.

Batts and Smith both finished with nine points, while junior Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) totaled eight points and four rebounds. Jordan Aiken had a stellar second half for the Bloodhounds as he scored nine of his 13 points.

Head Coach Tim Fusina and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 5th, as they will host the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University at 8:00 p.m.
