HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Jan. 5, 2016) – Led by senior
Anthony Bailey (Florida, N.Y. / SS Seward) with 17 points and 10 rebounds, all five cyclone starters scored in double figures as the Centenary College men's basketball team defeated Immaculata University, 81-64.
Junior
Zachary Duymich (Millstone Township, N.J. / Allentown) finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, six rebounds and four steals for the Cyclones who improve to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Michael Griffin III made four three pointers and finished with 16 points as the Mighty Macs fell to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in the CSAC.
Centenary's starting five combined for 70 of the 81 points scored, including sophomore
Rashaan Spencer (Hackettstown, N.J. / Mount Olive) who finished with 15 points and five rebounds. The Cyclones got a large chunk of their points from the charity stripe, as they went to the line 36 times, making 25. Spencer and Bailey went a combined 16-for-22 from the line, including making five free throws apiece in the second half.
Junior
Paul Jones (Trenton, N.J. / Ewing) and sophomore
Myles McLeod (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck) were difference makers on the boards and the defensive end. McLeod finished with a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, including grabbing seven caroms in the first half. Jones finished with 11 points, three blocks and a steal.
Senior
Deshawn Batts (Piscataway, N.J. / Pacific) provided a spark off the bench, finishing with seven points, four assists and two rebounds in just 13 minutes of work. The Cyclones were down by six at 23-18, when Batts was inserted into the lineup. Centenary proceeded to go on a 7-0 run that was capped off by a Batts layup with 5:03 remaining in the first half. Batts wasn't finished as he allowed the Cyclones to maintain a 38-35 halftime lead, by assisting on a Bailey layup and a Duymich triple.
In the second half, Duymich was the main catalyst as he totaled eight points, four rebounds, four steals, two assists and knocked down two triples. The Cyclones held a 14 point advantage with 11:05 remaining, but the Mighty Macs started to heat up from downtown and eventually cut the lead to 60-54 at the 9:01 mark. After the Cyclones broke were forced to call a timeout, Bailey found Duymich on the wing for a three to regain momentum and the lead at 63-54.
