BRONX, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2015) – On Monday evening, the Centenary College women's soccer team (7-8-2) nearly pulled out a victory, but were defeated by New York University (11-4), 1-0.
The story of the game was freshman
Hannah Walsh (Worcester, Pa. / Methacton) versus the NYU offense as the Bobcats took 34 shots, including 13 on frame; Walsh stopped 12 of those shots.
NYU had the advantage from the opening whistle by controlling the possessions and receiving many opportunities, as they took eight shots in the first 11 minutes alone. The Bobcats struck in the 23
rd minute on a goal by Olivia Braender-Carr to put the Cyclones in a 1-0 deficit. NYU would keep possession and take another couple of shots before they took their lead into halftime.
The second half was more of the same for the Cyclones, but they had a chance on a header from freshman
Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor), which sailed just wide the left post. NYU continued to take took shot after shot, which were warded away by Walsh, as the Cyclones couldn't garner much offense throughout the match.
Head Coach
Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 29
th, as they will travel to Allentown, Pa. to face the Falcons of Cedar Crest College in the season finale beginning at 4:00 p.m.
