Women's Soccer Holds Cedar Crest Scoreless in Regular Season Finale

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2015) – On Thursday afternoon, the Centenary College women's soccer team (7-2-2 CSAC) took down Cedar Crest College (0-10 CSAC) 3-0 on the heels of goals by junior Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere), sophomore Emily Pizzuto (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central), and senior Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor).

In what was a complete reverse of last games lost to NYU, the Cyclones came out strong as they recorded five shots in the first 20 minutes. Sharr was the first to break through for the Cyclones on a header off the foot of freshman Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) to give Centenary a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the half.

The second half was much of the same for the Cyclones, as they came out just as strong as in the first. This time it was Pizzuto scoring in the 60th minute to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead. Karszen followed up with another goal in the 69th minute, which was assisted by senior Jaclyn LaGuardia (Wyckoff, N.J. / Ramapo), as Centenary took a commanding 3-0 advantage with only 20 minutes left in the game.

The teams played evenly for the rest of the match, and the Cyclones were able to hold on to their 3-0 lead to move to 7-2-2 in the CSAC. The Cyclones have assured themselves no worse than the #4 seed moving into the playoffs, which would guarantee themselves a home playoff game against either Keystone College, Rosemont College, Marywood University. Centenary defeated both Rosemont and Keystone in their regular season meetings 2-0, and 6-1 respectively, and tied Marywood 1-1.
