Women’s Soccer Ends Season with Double Overtime Loss to Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 2, 2015)- Sophomore Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) and senior Lorraine Dedrick (Trumbull, Conn. / Trumbull) scored as the Centenary College women's soccer team fell on a late goal in the 101st minute of double overtime to lose, 3-2, to the Ravens of Rosemont College in the Quarterfinals of the CSAC Tournament

Rosemont improves to 7-11-1 overall, while the Cyclones finish their season at 8-9-2 overall. The Ravens will advance to the CSAC semifinals to face top seeded Cabrini College on Wednesday.

The first half saw both teams record their fair number of shots, but neither team was able to net a goal and we entered halftime at a 0-0 draw. The second half proved to be a complete 180 of the first half.

Centenary actually took a 2-0 lead in the 67th minute as Benoit scored off a feed from freshman Sam Bombardiere (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) in 63rd minute and Dedrick recorded her goal in the 67th minute. The Ravens kept fighting and eventually scored two unanswered goals in the 76th and 83rd minutes, respectively, to force overtime.

After a quiet first overtime period, we remained deadlocked entering the second overtime. In the opening minute, Savannah Widdicombe scored the game-winner off a double assist from Lindsay Wong and Cassidy Steiner to send the Ravens to the semifinals

Benoit and Dedrick combined for 13 of the Cyclones 20 shots, while senior Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) recorded three shots herself. Widdicombe led the away with six shots, while both Victoria Kasper and Payton Kanagie recorded three shots apiece for Rosemont. Andrea Dossantos made nine saves and pick up the victory, while freshman Hannah Walsh (Worcester, Pa. / Methacton) made four saves in 100:54 and took the loss.
