Two Second Half Goals Propel Men’s Soccer to CSAC Victory over Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 17, 2015)- The Centenary College men's soccer team netted two goals in the second half to propel them to a 2-0 victory over Rosemont College at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field this afternoon.

Junior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) assisted on both goals for the Cyclones who improve to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Zach Bowe made nine saves for the Ravens who fall to 0-13-1 overall and 0-6 in the CSAC.

The Cyclones set the pace from the opening tap, as they recorded six shots in the opening ten minutes. Sophomores Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) and Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) combined for five of those six shots taken. The Ravens caught up to the pace, but were unable to score as senior Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) denied Rosemont three different times in the first half. Despite the rapid fire shots from both teams, the game remained scoreless at intermission.

In the second half, it didn't take long for the Cyclones to get on the scoreboard. In the 52nd minute, Marin controlled a back pass and launched it over the Ravens defense to Lamanna. Lamanna headed the ball off a bounce towards the goal, where junior Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) was there to tap it in for the 1-0 lead.

After three Rosemont shots went wide of the net, Centenary would increase their lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute. Sophomore Chris Flores (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) ran down a ball that looked like it was headed out, and sprinted up the right side of the field. Marin streaked up the middle and caught a touch pass from Flores, who then played a beautiful thru ball to freshman Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown). Weiss was able to draw the netminder and tap the ball passed him for the score.

After that goal, the Ravens seemed to lose any momentum, as they only attempted two shots in the final 25 minutes.
Marin recorded a game-high five shots, while Brix and White both attempted four shots. Lamanna and seniors Makenson Joseph (Haute-Feuille, Merchant Dessalines / Irvington High School) and Sean Robinson (Mount Olive, N.J. / Mount Olive) all recorded two shots apiece. Vito DiSanti posted a team-high three shots for the Ravens.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 20th, as they will host the Giants of Keystone College at 3:00 p.m.
