Women’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie with Marywood

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2015)- After 110 minutes of play, nothing was decided as the Centenary College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Pacers of Marywood University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Lorraine Dedrick (Trumbull, Conn. / Trumbull) netted the game tying goal for the Cyclones who now stand at 4-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Julie Youngman scored the lone goal for the Pacers who now stand at 5-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the CSAC.

Centenary and Marywood traded shots and ball possession in the first half, as neither team found the back of the net. Freshman Hannah Walsh (Worcester, Pa. / Methacton) made three saves in the opening stanza, including two on shots taken by Brianna Bruster. Senior Becky D'Angelo (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) was very active in the first half, as she took three shots on goal, but failed to score as the game entered halftime at a scoreless draw.
In the second half, Marywood took a 1-0 lead just two minutes in, as Youngman capitalized off a loose ball in the box.

Centenary would even the contest in the 63rd minute as sophomore Jessica Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) headed a ball into open space, allowing Dedrick to get a breakaway for the score.

Benoit had an opportunity of her own in the 89th minute, but pulled the shot wide of the net and the game went to overtime. In the first extra session, freshman Amanda Benoit (Hazlet, N.J. / Raritan) just missed netting the game winner in the 92nd minute, as she clanked a shot off the crossbar. The game remained tied after 100 minutes were played

In the second extra session, D'Angelo did everything in her power to get Centenary the victory, but had two shots denied by the Pacers netminder Aly Moyer and a header attempt that was blocked. The Cyclones did a great job in the overtime periods, limiting Marywood to just one shot in the final 20 minutes.

Walsh played all 110 minutes and made six saves, while Moyer also played 110 minutes and made five saves.

Head Coach Kevin Davies and the Cyclones will return to action on Tues. Oct. 13th, as they will host the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University at 3:00 p.m.
