HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 13, 2015) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Centenary College women's soccer team (3-2-2 CSAC) played to a 1-1 draw with the (3-2-1 CSAC) Mighty Macs of Immaculata University.
The Cyclones got on the board early in the 2
nd minute, as freshman
Kristin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor) passed the ball to a wide-open sophomore
Emily Pizzuto (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) who easily got the ball past the right of the Mighty Macs keeper Elizabeth McBride to give Centenary a 1-0 lead.
It was the Mighty Macs who would respond in the 18
th minute, as Rachel Lamb got an opening on the left side and was able to tip it past a charging freshman
Hannah Walsh (Worcester, Pa. / Methacton) to tie the game at 1-1.
It was at that point where the game turned as the Mighty Macs carried the play for the remainder of the first half, as they took numerous shots and corner kicks, but the Cyclones were able to keep the game knotted at one. The second half played out much more even with each team getting a few good opportunities, but were unable to convert the go-ahead goal, which sent the game into overtime.
The first overtime was fairly quiet, but the second overtime produced numerous chances for the Mighty Macs. Immaculata received five corner kicks in the second extra session, but thankfully for the Cyclones they were all nullified, which lead the teams to close the game at a 1-1 tie.
Junior
Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) and Pizzuto led the team in shots with six each, while Walsh finished the game with nine saves.
Head Coach
