Cyclones Drop Home Opener to Moravian, 83-75

Hackettstown, NJ - On Wednesday night, at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, Centenary College (0-3) was defeated by the Moravian College (1-2) by the final of 83-75.

This was a game in which the Cyclones battled hard all night, but just couldn't get the bounces to fall their way. The Greyhounds were led by Brandon McGuire with 19 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, and Izel Dickerson who finished with 18 points.

Centenary's depth defiantly showed tonight as four players finished with double-digit figures, while Deshawn Batts led the way netting a team-high 15 points. Freshman, Myles McLeod also posted a great game has he finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Sophomore forward, Paul Jones and Senior Josh Case each tallied 11 points to go along with a combined 13 rebounds.

Moravian jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but Centenary answered back with a 7-0 run to take a 7-6 lead.  Moravian would regain the lead a few seconds later and never looked back posting another run (10-0).  Centenary would fight back to get within four, but the Greyhounds were unwilling to surrender the lead.

With 5:30 remaining in the first half, the Greyhounds would capitalize on Centenary turnovers as the Cyclones gave away the ball leading to three straight scores for the Greyhounds which developed into a 14-2 run as the Greyhounds broke open a relatively close affair to head into the break with a 10 point advantage (42-32).

In the second half, the Greyhounds would continue to keep the Cyclone offense at bay maintaining a double-digit lead throughout most of the period.  Centenary would come as close as seven points on two different occasions down the stretch but were unable to stop the Moravian offense to close the gap.  The Greyhounds shot 43% from the field on 29-of-67 shooting, while the Cyclones shot 40% on 26-of-65 shooting from the field.  Both teams also shot over 50% from the charity stripe
