Hackettstown, NJ – The Centenary women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference matchup against New Jersey City University this evening. The Gothic Knights defeated the Cyclones in four sets 17-25, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25.
In the first set, NJCU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, however the Cyclones would battle back to get within one point but were unable to take the lead to close out the set falling 17-25.
The Cyclones would return in set two trailing once again but this time Centenary would take the lead after
Myriah Cockburn's three service aces in a row would put them up 6-2. Centenary never relinquished the lead despite the efforts of NJCU to get within one; the Cyclones were able to put the set win in the books 25-22.
NJCU would ultimately take the final two sets as the Cyclones drop to 0-21 and the Gotchi Knights improve to 4-13.
Centenary's
Andrea Martorana tallied a team-high 14 kills, eight digs and four service aces.
Myriah Cockburn would chip in five kills, six service aces and 11 digs, while teammate
Brianne Allender also tabbed four kills and 11 digs.
To lead NJCU, Jade Medley (15) and Shege Haxhaj (11) both tallied double digit kills to lead the Gothic Knights offense.
Centenary's
Na'imah Spells dished out 19 assists, while NJCU's Rachel McIntyre tallied 31 for the night.
The Cyclones take to the road as they'll compete at the Rowan Invitational October 10 – 11 @ 5pm.
