Glassboro, NJ – The Centenary volleyball team fell to Hunter College and Rowan University as they finished day two of the Rowan Invitational this afternoon.
Centenary dropped its first match of the day to Hunter College in three sets (18-25, 14-25 and 21-25). The Cyclones drop to 0-24 overall, while the Hawks improve to 10-12.
The Cyclone offense was led by Freshman
Andrea Martorana (West Milford, NJ / Indian Hills) with a team-high 10 kills, two service aces and one block. Senior,
Myriah Cockburn (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) chipped in two kills and seven digs.
Brianne Allender (Toms River, NJ / Central Regional) led the defense with 11 digs and one block assist.
The Hawks were led by Karolina Gadja who tallied a team-best 10 kills, while Samantha Barret and Lucia Stosic each tabbed nine kills. Jessyka Quisquino led the defense with 10 kills and also chipped in five service aces.
Sophomore setter, Na'Imah Spells (Irvington, NJ / Irvington) dished out 11 assists, while Kristine Ciuricina handed out 32 assists for Hunter.
In Game 2, the Cyclones dropped the final match to host, Rowan University 3-0. Set scores for the match were 6-25, 6-25 and 15-25.
The Centenary offense struggled against Rowan as they only tallied six kills as a team and once again plagued by errors.
Centenary's outside hitter Cockburn tallied two kills and five digs while, Spells had three assists and three digs. Allender and defensive specialist
Alethia Anderson (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) registered three digs apiece.
Rowan's offense was paced by Morgan Mende who tabbed a team-best eight kills, while Gina Kisley chipped in seven. Danielle Havlicek and Mary-Grace Testa both tallied five service aces apeace.
With the loss, the Cyclones fall to 0-25, while the Profs improve to 10-13.
Up next for Centenary is a CSAC conference match against Cairn University in Langhorne, PA October 15
th at 7:00pm.
