Stephen Speirs

Stephen Speirs was named the head coach of the Centenary field hockey team in November of 2018.

Speirs will bring a wealth of experience to the Centenary sidelines as he was a highly successful coach at Hackettstown High School for the last eight years. Just this past fall, he led the Tigers to the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex County Tournament Title for the first time in the last 15 years. In the last four years, Speirs has led Hackettstown to the conference title each year and also to three appearances in the NJISAA semifinals.

"I am honored having been selected to help reinstate the field hockey program at Centenary University," said Speirs. "As the head coach, I am committed to providing student athletes every opportunity to reach their greatest potential on and off the playing field."

Speirs has earned numerous coach of the year awards and had his squad selected as the NJ Herald Team of the Year in 2017. He is a member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and has served on their High School All-Region/All-American Committee.

He also brings a wealth of club coaching experience to Centenary as well as he has been the owner/head coach of the Cosmic Storm Field Hockey LLC since March of 2016. There he was responsible for U12-U19 field hockey training, including practice, game and showcase tournament scheduling, promotional needs and financial obligations, promoting athletes to college recruiters and more.

Speirs earned his Bachelor's degree in sociology with a specialization in criminal justice from Centenary in 2007. He also has a Graduate Studies degree in Leadership and & Public Administration.

Off the field, Speirs works as the Director of Security for the Great Meadows Regional School District and the Hackettstown Public Schools. There he is responsible for hiring and supervising school security officers, the security budget, training of district employees and more.
