HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a dominant 3-0 victory over Medgar Evers College Thursday evening inside the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The Cyclones swept the Cougars by scores of 25-9, 25-6 and 25-7 to improve to 4-8 on the season.
Centenary took control early in the opening set, using an aggressive serving attack to build a comfortable advantage. The Cyclones recorded five kills and hit .286 in the frame, cruising to a 25-9 victory.
The Cyclones carried that momentum into the second set, turning in their most efficient offensive performance of the night. Centenary recorded four kills on five attempts with just one error for a .600 hitting percentage, taking the set 25-6.
Centenary continued its strong play in the third set, adding six kills while limiting Medgar Evers to seven points to complete the straight-set victory.
The Cyclones finished the evening with an impressive 36 service aces and a .333 team hitting percentage. Britney Keeney led the serving effort with eight aces, while Poppy Skjonnemand and Rey Bennett each added seven. Adrienne Xiao contributed five aces and a team-high eight assists.
Skjonnemand led Centenary offensively with three kills and added four digs. Helen Bilomasur, Jennifer Thistlethwaite, Bennett, Sofia Mendez and Isabella Cappello each recorded two kills.
With the victory, Centenary improves to 4-8 overall.
