New York, N.Y.: The Centenary University volleyball team battled in a four-set match on the road Tuesday night but came up just short, falling 3-1 to Baruch College.
Junior outside hitter Poppy Skjonnemand continued her strong play, leading the Cyclones with a match-high 19 kills to go along with 12 digs. Jennifer Thistlethwaite added 10 kills and two aces, while Gabriella Miller chipped in seven kills. Setter Vanessa Pagano directed the offense with 36 assists, 16 digs, and 4 service aces and libero Rey Bennett anchored the defense with a team-high 18 digs.
Centenary (8-7) matched Baruch point-for-point in each frame, as the contest featured 39 ties and 28 lead changes. After dropping the first set in extra points, the Cyclones responded with a strong 25-22 win in the second. The final two sets both went down to the wire, but Baruch's balanced attack and 11 service aces proved the difference.
The Cyclones will have a short break before they return home Thursday, Oct. 9, to host Ramapo at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
