The Centenary University baseball team wrapped up the 2025 season on a high note, earning major recognition in the Atlantic East Conference postseason awards. Senior right-hander Zach Gehman was named the Atlantic East Reliever of the Year, capping off a dominant season out of the bullpen. He was joined by sophomore centerfielder Joseph Frei and third baseman Dominick Chiego, both of whom were named to the All-Conference Second Team for their standout seasons.
Gehman Shuts the Door on Stellar Career
At 6-foot-3, Zach Gehman was a towering presence on the mound and an even bigger problem for opposing hitters. The senior reliever was lights out in 2025, finishing with a 2-1 record, a 4.40 ERA across 30.2 innings, and allowing just 26 hits. Gehman struck out 27 batters — placing him top-three all-time in career strikeouts at Centenary — while giving up only 16 runs.
His season reached its peak on April 3 against Immaculata, when he fanned six batters over 3.1 shutout innings, securing a key win for the Cyclones. A trusted weapon out of the bullpen all season, Gehman ends his Centenary career with accolades and a legacy of clutch relief performances.
Chiego Ignites Cyclone Offense
Third baseman Dominick Chiego emerged as the offensive engine for Centenary this spring. The sophomore was relentless at the plate, batting .362 with a team-high 51 hits and 42 RBIs. His 15 extra-base hits included two triples and two home runs, and he added eight stolen bases to showcase his all-around offensive prowess. Chiego's consistency and power in the heart of the lineup helped drive the Cyclones' offensive attack throughout the season.
Frei Flashes the Leather and the Bat
Roaming centerfield with precision and producing at the plate, Joseph Frei delivered a strong two-way season. The sophomore batted .330 with 34 hits, 26 RBIs, and eight extra-base hits while stealing nine bases. On defense, Frei was a lockdown presence in the outfield, recording 68 putouts, two assists, and just two errors all season. His speed, range, and glove made him a cornerstone of the Cyclones' defensive unit.
Building Momentum
With Gehman graduating, the Cyclones will look to Chiego and Frei to lead the next wave of Centenary talent. But for now, the 2025 season ends with the team celebrating three well-deserved individual honors — a testament to the hard work, grit, and skill that defined Cyclone baseball this year.
