Hackettstown, NJ: Cyclones take two against Coast Guard Academy to conclude their spring break trip in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Clones won game one by a score of 3-2, and game two by a score of 6-5.
First for everything
Freshmen Anthony Fraser and Louie Vassallo pick up their first collegiate wins on the mound. Fraser came in with bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh inning. Despite the situation, Fraser anchored down and got out of the jam allowing zero runs to come across in his 2 2/3 pitched. In Game 2, Vassallo came in during the fifth inning and mowed down Coast Guard Academy allowing just 2 hits in his three innings pitched.
Century Mark
In the bottom of the sixth inning, shortstop Christopher Gass collected his 100th collegiate hit in game one of the double-header. Gass did not slow down in game two as he went 3 for 3 putting him at 103 Career Hits. This puts him 37Â hits away from cracking the top ten All-Time Hits leaders list for Centenary.
Late Game Heroes
In game one, Nicholas Gattuso came in off the bench for a pinch hit opportunity and did not back down. In the second pitch of the AB, Gattuso drives the ball to center field for a leadoff single. Following the base hit, Dominic Salot then lays down a perfect SAC Bunt to move Gattuso in scoring position. With one out in the bottom of the 9th, Paul Links barrels the first pitch he sees to center allowing Gattuso to score from second.
In Game Two, the Cyclones found themselves down by one run to start the top of the seventh inning. Jake Keenan led off the inning with triple and followed the hit up by scoring on a wild pitch to score the tying run. Gass would then single and advance to second on a wild pitch. Anthony Vassallo stepped into the box with no outs and hit a fly ball to left field, advancing Gass to third base. With a chance to take the lead, Brandon Smith hit a SAC fly to center field allowing Gass to score and put the Cyclones ahead. In the bottom of the seventh, Louie Vassallo would provide the Clones with a shutdown inning to pick up the win.
