Velasquez Mejia Makes 14 Saves as Men's Soccer Falls at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Kevin Velasquez Mejia made a season-high 14 saves to lead the Centenary University men's soccer team in a hard fought 4-0 loss at Eastern on Saturday afternoon.

Velasquez Mejia's 14 stops are the most by Centenary keeper since Devon Warne had 14 against Scranton in the 2018 season.

Eastern scored a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes to take an early 2-0 lead in the game.

The two teams continued to battle as Velasquez Mejia gave the Cyclones a chance with eight first half saves.

The home team carried a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Evan Cope scored his second of the day just two minutes into the second half to help the home team extend its advantage to 3-0.

The two teams continued to battle as Eastern tacked on one more goal for the 4-0 victory.

Ty Bleiler made four saves to earn the win in goal for Eastern. Velasquez Mejia made six saves in the second half to finish with 14 for the Cyclones.

Centenary is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 when it hosts Clarks Summit at 3 p.m.
