Men's Soccer Tripped Up by Rutgers Newark

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.Aslan Kat and Franco Catania each had a goal and an assist to lead Rutgers University Newark to a 4-0 victory over the Centenary University men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.

The two sides battled early as Rutgers Newark was able to break through in the 13th minute. The ball was played into the box where it bounced off several players before Gerson Gonzalez-Quevedo settled the ball at his feet and banged it home.

Rutgers-Newark carried the 1-0 lead into the half as both teams had chances over the final 30+ minutes but neither was able to convert.

The Scarlet Raiders tacked on three goals in the second half to secure the 4-0 victory. Kat and Catania each had a goal and an assist to lead the efforts.

Centenary's best chance came in a 10-minute stretch that saw the home team put three shots on goal, including two by Julian Lippner, but the Scarlet Raiders were able to turn away all three.

Christian Andrach made four saves in 83:14 to lead Rutgers-Newark. Julian Randall was not forced to make a save in his 6:46 of work. Andrew Tarkazikis had a season-best nine saves in the loss for the Cyclones.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Eastern for a 3:30 p.m. game.
