Women's Soccer Battles For a 2-2 Tie With William Paterson in Season Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Blaise Vallorosi had a goal and an assist and Chelsea Estacio made five saves as the Centenary University women's soccer team battled to a 2-2 tie with William Paterson in the season opener for both squads on Thursday afternoon.

Both teams had their chances in the first half, but neither was able to dent the scoreboard.

Just 25 seconds into the second half, the Cyclones changed all that as Vallorosi sent a ball into the box that Brelyn Cusano was able to collect and knock home. That gave Centenary a 1-0 advantage.

Centenary added to its advantage 3:18 seconds later as Liliana Flores collected a ball on the sideline near the Cyclones bench and sent it into the box. Vallorosi sent a high shot past the keeper for the 2-0 lead for the home team.

William Paterson cut its deficit in half with a goal off the foot of Gina Labiento at 50:42.

The two teams continued to battle over the next several minutes.

The Pioneers were able to tally the equalizer at 63:02 as Sabrina Bishara corralled a rebound and punched it home over the hands of Estacio.

Both teams had their chances down the stretch, but neither could tally a third goal and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Estacio made three of her five saves in the first half for the Cyclones. Sarah Mantilla made three saves for William Paterson.

Centenary is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 4 when it travels to Drew for a 12 p.m. game.
