SWEET BRIAR, Va. – A big first half lifted Sweet Briar College to a 12-6 win over the Centenary University women's lacrosse team in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday morning.
Valen Foster had three goals and one assist as Sweet Briar took a 6-1 lead at the half.
Amanda Tietjen scored the Cyclones' goal in the second period.
Sweet Briar scored the first three goals of the third period and increased its lead to 9-1.
Zaairah Lamothe converted a free position attempt at 6:36 of the third period and broke up the Sweet Briar run. It was the senior's fifth goal of the season.
Sweet Briar got two more and pushed its lead to 11-2 before
Lily Butcher scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 1:42 mark.
Butcher's goal started a 4-0 run by the Cyclones that bridged the third and fourth quarters.
Christine Manser scored a pair in that stretch while
Kristin Bell also hit the back of the net. That run made it an 11-6 game with 4:24 to play in the game.
Sweet Briar was able to tack on one more goal just before the buzzer and close out the 12-6 win.
Kat Navarro made eight saves to earn the win in goal for Sweet Briar.
Jenyfer Pereira made three saves in the first half for the Cyclones while
Chloe Neubauer made seven saves in the second half of action.
Foster led Sweet Briar with five goals and one assist for six points while
Kaylah Bailey had two goals, one assist and eight draw controls.
Manser led the Cyclones' offensive efforts with a pair of goals while Lamothe had a goal, three draw controls and two ground balls.
Ellie Roberts and
Sara Brotons had two caused turnovers each.
Centenary is back in action on Tuesday, April 12 when it visits Keystone at 4 p.m.
