Softball Splits with Delaware Valley on Senior Day

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Madison Passanante had four RBIs in game-one to lead the Centenary University softball team to a doubleheader split with Delaware Valley on Senior Day at Tannery Field.

Prior to the start of the game, the Cyclones honored seniors Savannah Hettman, Janaya Gaetan, Sandra Cosenzo, Roxana Gonzalez along with graduate student Courtney Deloughery for their contributions to the program.

Passanante had four RBIs and Gonzalez added four strikeouts in game-one to lead the Cyclones to the game-one 7-4 victory. Delaware Valley rallied from a 5-0 deficit for a 7-6 win in game-two.

Game One Recap (Centenary Won 7-4):
Delaware Valley got on the board first in this one with a run in the top of the first inning.

The Cyclones quickly found the answer in the bottom half of that frame. Passanante ripped a double to right center that scored Deloughery. Cosenzo later plated Passanante with her sac fly to center and freshman Carolyn Rosenberg added an RBI single.

Centenary added to its lead in the second as sophomore Toni Cacopardo drew a bases loaded walk that forced in Gaetan and made it a 4-1 game.

Passanante's second RBI double of the contest in the fourth gave the home team a 5-1 lead.

Delaware Valley strung together three runs in the fifth and cut the Centenary advantage to 5-4.

Passanante ripped her third double of the game in the bottom of the sixth for the Cyclones. This two-bagger plated junior Maggie Lenahan and Deloughery and gave Centenary a 7-4 advantage.

Sophomore Kelly Ann Earrusso set the Aggies down in the seventh to secure the win.

Gonzalez got the win as she went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. Earrusso picked up the save as she went the final two and did not allow a hit. Olivia Monismith took the loss for the Aggies after surrendering four runs on seven hits in two innings.

Passanante was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored for the Cyclones while Lenahan had three hits and two runs scored. Deloughery added two hits and two runs for Centenary.

Game Two Recap (Delaware Valley Won 7-6):
Game-two of the doubleheader was a game of runs between the Cyclones and Aggies.

Centenary opened the scoring by putting five runs on the board in the bottom of the third. Junior Jenna Glinko had a two-run double in the frame while Cacopardo and junior Chloe Wright each plated a run with an RBI double. Gaetan had an RBI single in the inning.

Delaware Valley tied the game with a five-run inning of its own. The Aggies put five on the board in the top of the fifth. The big blow in that inning came from Monismith who had a bases clearing double.

The Aggies tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Sierra Ripka had an RBI single in that frame.

Centenary got one run back in the seventh as Wright's sac fly scored Cosenzo but that was all the Cyclones could get as Delaware Valley claimed the 7-6 win.

Katherine Beckett picked up the win for the Aggies as she gave up six runs on 13 hits in the complete game effort. Sophomore Julia Campen suffered the loss as she gave up six runs on 11 hits in five innings.

Monismith had two hits and three RBIs for Delaware Valley.

Glinko was a solid 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Cyclones while Wright added two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.

The Cyclones had their regular season finale against Keystone scheduled for Wednesday canceled. The Cyclones will be back in action on Friday, April 29 when the Atlantic East Conference Tournament gets underway at Marywood.
