ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Centenary University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at Muhlenberg College on Monday afternoon.
Centenary scored first in game-one, but the Mules responded with nine straight runs for a 9-1 win. The Cyclones carried a 1-0 advantage into the sixth inning of game-two but couldn't hold on to the lead and eventually fell 9-1.
Game One Recap (Muhlenberg Won 9-1):
Centenary got on the board first in this one with a run in the first.
Toni Cacopardo stroked a double to right center that allowed
Courtney Deloughery to score.
Muhlenberg tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second.
The Mules put four on the board in the third and four more in the fourth to secure the 9-1 win.
Gillian Zack had three RBIs in that stretch for the home team.
Sarah Raab earned the win in relief for the Mules as she went one inning and did not allow a hit while recording two strikeouts.
Julia Campen took the loss as she went four innings and gave up nine runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Zack had two hits and three RBIs for Muhlenberg while
Kaya Mahy had two hits and three runs scored.
Cacopardo had a hit and an RBI for the Cyclones.
Game Two Recap (Muhlenberg Won 9-1):
Once again it was the Cyclones striking first with a run in the top of the first.
Madison Passanante doubled to left field with two outs. That base knock allowed Cacopardo to cross the plate.
Both teams had their chances in the second through fifth innings but were unable to convert.
Roxana Gonzalez and the Cyclone defense limited the Muhlenberg chances.
The home team finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth as the Mules put nine on the board to close out the contest.
Natalie Smith had a three-run triple while
Sarah Karmazyn had a two-run double to highlight the inning.
Justine Bergara got the win for Muhlenberg as she allowed one run on five hits in six innings. Gonzalez suffered the loss as she surrendered eight unearned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings.
Zack had three hits, a run scored and an RBI while Karmazyn added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Mules.
Maggie Lenahan had two hits for the Cyclones while Passanante had a hit and an RBI.
Centenary is right back at it when it visits Cabrini on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
