HACKETTSTOWN, N. J. – The Centenary University softball team battled to the final out but ultimately fell to Drew University in nonconference action on Wednesday.
The Rangers grabbed an early lead in game-one and secured a 9-2 victory. Drew used a big seventh inning to break open game-two and claimed an 11-1 victory.
Game One Recap (Drew Won 9-2):
Drew jumped out to an early lead in this one with a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the third.
The Rangers put two on the board in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.
Centenary got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth as
Madison Passanante lifted a sac fly to left that allowed
Courtney Deloughery to score.
Drew used two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead in the game.
Centenary scored a second run in the bottom of the seventh as
Maggie Lenahan reached on an error that allowed
Yvanna Germosen to score.
Drew claimed the 9-2 win.
Brianna Seals earned the win for Drew as she went all seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits.
Julia Campen suffered the loss for the Cyclones as she gave up four runs on seven hits in four innings of action.
Madi Precht was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs for Drew.
Toni Cacopardo had two hits for the Cyclones while Deloughery had a hit and a run scored.
Game Two Recap (Drew Won 11-1):
A pair of sac flies in the first inning gave Drew a 2-0 advantage.
The Rangers scored two more in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 5-0 lead.
The Cyclones got one back in the bottom of the sixth as
Rhiannon Ginnetti's RBI single allowed Passanante to touch home.
Drew added six runs in the top of the seventh for an 11-1 victory.
Emilee Marshall earned the win in the circle for Drew as she allowed one run on four hits in the complete game effort.
Roxana Gonzalez took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up 11 runs on 11 hits in seven innings.
Precht contributed two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for Drew.
Ginnetti had a hit and an RBI for the Cyclones.
Centenary is back in action on Monday, April 18 when it travels to Muhlenberg for a 3 p.m. start.
