Softball Tripped Up in Season Opening Doubleheader at Marymount

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jenna Glinko had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Centenary University softball team in its season opening doubleheader at Marymount on Friday afternoon. The games were also the Atlantic East opening contests for both squads.

The Cyclones grabbed a 3-2 lead in game before the Saints battled back for a 5-3 win in game one. In game two, Marymount jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and eventually claimed an 11-3 victory.

Game One Recap (Marymount Won 5-3):
The Cyclones struck first in this one as Glinko lifted a fly ball down the left field line that allowed Courtney Deloughery to score.

Marymount responded and put two on the board in the bottom of the first. Elizabeth Corcoran doubled home a run and later scored on a passed ball.

Centenary scored a pair of runs in the top of the third and took a 3-2 lead in the game. Toni Cacopardo laced a double to left that scored Deloughery and later scored on Glinko's infield single.

Marymount used a two-run single from Sara Emig in the bottom half of that frame to take back the lead, 4-3.

The Saints added a run in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 5-3 win.

Morgan Hunt picked up the win in the circle for Marymount. She tossed the complete game effort and allowed three runs on six hits and recorded two strikeouts. Julia Campen took the loss for Centenary after giving up four runs on three hits in three innings of action.

Deloughery had two hits and two runs scored for the Cyclones while Cacopardo had a hit and an RBI and Glinko had a hit and two RBIs.

Emig had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored for Marymount.

Game Two Recap (Marymount Won 11-3):
Marymount jumped out to an early lead with a four spot in the bottom of the first in the game two. Emig had an RBI single in the frame.

The Saints used a single run in the second and two more in the fourth to extend their advantage to 7-0 in the game.

Centenary put three on the board in the top of the fifth to cut into the Marymount lead. Deloughery reached on an error that allowed Dara Murphy to score. Glinko's infield single plated Deloughery while Madison Passanante reached on error which scored Cacopardo.

Marymount added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the 11-3 win.

Shanyn Burch earned the win for the Saints after giving up three unearned runs on five hits. Roxana Gonzalez took the loss for the Cyclones as she gave up four runs on three hits in three innings.

Glinko had two hits and an RBI for the Cyclones while Cacopardo had a hit and a run scored.

Emig had two hits and two RBIs for the Saints.

Centenary is back in action when it kicks off its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach. The Cyclones take on Gettysburg (1:30 p.m.) and King's (5:30 p.m.) on Sunday, March 6.
