Verderber and Toledo Help Men's Lacrosse Defeat Keystone, 15-5

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Brandon Verderber and Jason Toledo combined for eight goals and four assists to lead the Centenary University men's lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Keystone College on Saturday afternoon.

Centenary snapped a two-game losing streak with the win and gifted head coach Pat Regan with his first coaching victory.

The Cyclones scored the first four goals of the game and took a 4-1 advantage after 15 minutes of play. Toledo had a pair of goals and an assist for Centenary in the first stanza.

The home team put the only two goals of the second period of the board. Verderber scored his second of the day while Zeke Giorlando had a man-up goal. Centenary took a 6-1 lead at the break.

Centenary scored the first three goals of the third period and pushed its lead to 9-1. Verderber had two goals and an assist in this stretch while Ronan Bova tallied a goal and an assist.

Keystone manufactured a three-goal run of its own and cut the Centenary lead to 9-4. Noel Gonzalez had a pair of goals in that stretch.

Centenary capped the third period scoring with Toledo's third goal of the game. Centenary led 10-4 with 15 minutes to play in the game.

Verderber struck for his fifth goal of the game to open the fourth period scoring. That was quickly followed by AJ Puerto tallying his first of the year. Puerto won the faceoff and went straight to the cage for his goal.

After Keystone scored, the Cyclones scored the final three goals of the game. Sean Menjivar had a pair of tallies before Ben Hoban scored. That closed out a 15-5 Centenary win.

Travis Austin made nine big saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones. Michael McGovern had 14 saves in the loss for Keystone.

Verderber led Centenary with five goals and one assist for six points and added three ground balls. Toledo did a little bit of everything for the Cyclones as he finished with three goals and three assists for six points while also tallying nine ground balls and four caused turnovers. In addition to his goal, Puerto contributed 15 faceoff wins and nine ground balls.

Gonzalez had two goals and an assist for Keystone.

Centenary is back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 30 when it hosts Cabrini at 3 p.m.
