Softball Falls in Home Opener to FDU Florham

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Toni Cacopardo and Sandra Cosenzo each had a game-one double to lead the Centenary University softball team in a doubleheader against FDU Florham on Wednesday afternoon.

Cacopardo scored a run in the fourth inning of game one, but it was not enough as the Cyclones fell 5-1. Jenna Glinko and Madison Passanante each had an RBI in game two, but FDU Florham secured the 8-2 victory.

Game One Recap (FDU Florham Won 5-1):
 The two sides were scoreless until the fourth inning of game one as the Devils were able to put a pair of runs on the board.

The Cyclones got one run back in the bottom half of that frame as Cosenzo singled and Cacopardo crossed the plate on the play.

FDU Florham made it a 4-1 game in the fifth as Heather Priante had a two-run triple to center.

The Devils added on another run in the seventh as Priante had her second RBI triple of the game. The capped the scoring and closed out a 5-1 FDU Florham win.

Ciara Hoffman picked up the win as she allowed just the one run on eight hits and struck out 10. Julia Campen suffered the loss for the Cyclones as she went 4.1 innings and surrendered four runs on four hits.

Priante went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Devils.

Cosenzo, Cacopardo and Maggie Lenahan all had two hits apiece for the Cyclones.

Game Two Recap (FDU Florham Won 8-2):
The Cyclones got on the board in the first of game two as Glinko roped a double to left that scored Courtney Deloughery.

FDU Florham took the lead with three runs in the top of the third. The big blow in that inning came from Morgan DeLoreto, who had a two-run double.

The Devils added to their lead with a run in the fourth.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the sixth and made it a 4-2 game. Passanante dropped a single into right field that scored Lenahan.

FDU Florham added four runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 8-2 victory.

Bianca DiSanto earned the win for the Devils after giving up just two runs on five hits in the complete game effort. Roxana Gonzalez took the loss after giving up three runs on two hits in 2.2 innings of work.

DeLoreto led the Devils as she was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Deloughery had two hits and a run scored for the Cyclones while Glinko added two hits and an RBI.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 26 when it opens Atlantic East play by hosting Marywood at 12 p.m.
