Menjivar Leads Men's Lacrosse in Season Opening Loss to FDU Florham

MADISON, N.J. Sean Menjivar had a goal and an assist to lead the Centenary University men's lacrosse team in it's season opener at FDU-Florham on Wednesday afternoon.

The Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the start and eventually claimed the 23-6 victory.

The Cyclones put two on the board in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Brandon Verderber scored his first career goal off a pass from Menjivar while Zeke Giorlando accounted for the other tally.

Centenary scored four times in the second period of this contest. Jason Toledo and Ronan Bova each scored their first of the season. Ben Hoban struck for his first career goal and Menjivar put one on the board off a pass from Bova.

FDU-Florham took a 17-6 lead at the half and eventually claimed the 23-6 victory.

Dalton Povilaitis made two saves to earn the win for the Devils in goal. Travis Austin recorded 11 saves while making his first career start for the Cyclones.

Drew Gallagher led FDU Florham with five goals and four assists for nine points while Trevor Arnone had 16 faceoff wins and 10 ground balls.

Menjivar and Bova each had a goal and an assist for the Cyclones. Toledo and Giorlando each contributed a goal, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Mar. 19 when it travels to Rosemont for a 2 p.m. game.
