Softball Comeback Falls Just Short Versus Cazenovia

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sandra Cosenzo and Madison Passanante each had two RBIs in a hard fought 10-9 loss for the Centenary University softball team against Cazenovia College to wrap up the team's Spring Break Trip on Friday.

Cazenovia jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first in this one.

Jenna Glinko's RBI single in the bottom half of that frame cut the Cazenovia lead in half, 2-1.

Maggie Lenahan's sac fly to left in the bottom of the second tied the game at 2-2.

Madison Cieslak's two-run home run in the top of the third put Cazenovia back on top, 4-2.

RBI singles from Toni Cacopardo and Passanante in the third and fourth innings respectively tied the game at 4-4.

The Wildcats put three on the board in the fifth and one in the sixth and took an 8-4 lead over the Cyclones.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth as Cosenzo had an RBI groundout.

Cazenovia tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh for a 10-5 advantage in the game.

Centenary proved they weren't done yet with a seventh inning rally. The first two batters reached setting the stage for an RBI single from Janaya Gaetan. Courtney Deloughery followed with an RBI lineout that made it a 10-7 game.

After Cazenovia got the second out of the inning, Passanante delivered an RBI single and Cozeno's RBI double pulled the Cyclones to within one, 10-9.

However, Cazenovia was able to get the final out and secure the 10-9 win.

Morgan Mari earned the win as she went four innings and gave up four runs on six hits. Julia Campen took the loss as she tossed four innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits.

Glinko led the Cyclones with three hits and an RBI on the day while Passanante had two hits and two RBIs. Cosenzo had a hit and two RBIs while Lenahan scored a team-high three runs.

Cieslak led Cazenovia with four hits and five RBIs.

Centenary returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 17 when it travels to Montclair State for a 3 p.m. game.
