ARLINGTON, Va. – A second half rally fell just short for the Centenary University men's basketball team at Marymount University in Atlantic East play on Wednesday afternoon.
Harrison Lucibello and
Chris LaBelle combined for 42 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Cyclones.
Marymount opened up an 11-4 lead on
Roey Stern's lay-up at 15:55.
A three-pointer from
Billy Veras and a bucket from
Isaac Poueriet pulled the Cyclones to within six, 15-9 with 12:38 to go until the half.
The two teams traded point as a pair of free throws from Lucibello made it a 21-16 game with 8:39 showing on the clock.
A 9-2 run by the home team extended the Marymount advantage to 30-18 with 4:23 remaining until the break.
Centenary responded with an 8-4 run, highlighted by five points from LaBelle, and cut the Marymount lead to 34-26 at the 2:20 mark.
Marymount scored six of the final 10 points in the period and took a 40-30 lead at the break.
The Cyclones and Saints traded points to start the second half as a 4-0 run extended the Marymount advantage to 53-36 with 16:05 to go in the game.
A 9-1 run by the Cyclones pulled the visitors to within 11, 56-45 with 13:17 to go in the game. LaBelle had four points in that stretch.
A lay-up from
Zamir Clifton at 11:31 gave Marymount a 61-50 lead.
The two teams continued to battle on each end of the court. A lay-up from
Xavier Reaves at 8:04 put Marymount ahead 69-57.
A 10-0 run from Centenary pulled the Cyclones to within two, 69-67 with 5:07 to go in the game. LaBalle had five points during that key stretch.
A three-pointer from Veras and a pair of free throws from
Tyler White helped Centenary tie the game at 72-72 with 2:34 showing on the clock.
Marymount closed the game on an 8-3 run and secured the 80-75 win.
Centenary shot 43.3% from the field and hit 10 three-pointers. Marymount shot 49.2% from the floor and was 11-for-21 from the foul line. Centenary won the rebounding battle, 42-36.
Lucibello paced the Cyclones with 22 points and nine rebounds while LaBelle did a little bit of everything. The graduate student contributed 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Veras added 14 points and seven rebounds while Poueriet posted 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Reaves led Marymount with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Centenary wraps up a busy week when it travels to Neumann on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m.
