ASTON, Pa. –
Isaac Poueriet and
Chris LaBelle combined for 31 points to lead the Centenary University men's basketball team in a 91-62 loss to Neumann University in Atlantic East play on Saturday afternoon.
Neumann quickly opened up a 10-5 lead as
Tony James hit a jumper at 16:54.
Centenary scored the next five points and tied the game at 10-10.
A three-pointer from
Tyler White at 12:29 pulled the Cyclones to within three, 18-15.
The two teams continued to battle before an 11-0 run helped Neumann extend its advantage to 31-17 with 5:12 to go until the half.
A three-pointer from
Eseosa Omoruyi at 5:03 halted the Knights' run.
The Cyclones and Knights traded points over the final five minutes of the half. LaBelle hit a late three-pointer for the Cyclones but Neumann took a 43-25 lead at the break.
The second half proved to be much like the first as both teams had their opportunities as Neumann maintained its double-digit advantage and eventually closed out an 91-62 win.
Centenary shot 35.4% from the field and was 10-for-17 from the foul line. Neumann shot 63.9% from the floor and was 10-for-15 from the charity stripe. The Knights held a 44-27 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Poueriet led Centenary with 17 points and eight rebounds while LaBelle added 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. White added seven points to the cause.
Jalen Vaughns led Neumann with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Centenary is back in action on Monday, Feb. 7 when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy at 8 p.m.
